Pound Tomato Seeds
Information: The pound tomato is a very fleshy variety that can produce extremely large plants. The flavoursome, large tomatoes ripen to a pinkish red, are flattish-round and ribbed around the neck. Between two and four fruits, each 8-12cm in size grow on each offshoot.
Pound tomatoes have very succulent, fleshy pericarp walls with a buttery consistency and a bursting with flavour. They are excellent for cooking, grilling, stuffing and roasting.
Care: You can grow pound tomatoes at home, in a greenhouse or outside. Optimum germinating temperature is between 20°C and 26°C, germination takes place after 5-15 days. You can accelerate germination by priming them overnight in a damp cloth. The young plant should not be planted outside until after the last frost. Tomatoes need fresh, well-fertilised permeable soil, which is kept damp (but not wet!). They should be placed in a sunny, sheltered place with at least 6 hours of sunlight per day, if not more. As pound tomato plants can grow very tall, you should make sure that there is sufficient space between each plant (80cm) when planting them in your garden.
