This is possible thanks to contract farming, whereby absolutely no additional fertiliser or pesticides are used at all. You just can’t get these different varieties fresher from anywhere else. Of course, we don’t just stock one variety, instead we have what we believe to be all the most delicious chilies for pickling. It goes without saying that we also advise you of the different spice levels of these products. Some of the locally grown chilies are so hot that you’d be mistaken for thinking that the Pfalz region is actually situated on the outskirts of Hell itself. So you better be well prepared before you decide to enjoy these healthy treats.

The milder varieties of pickled hell-raisers

Some advice for inexperienced chili eaters: There are no representatives of spice levels 1 and 2 in this range of pickles. The mildest variety are the Pfalz Peperoni Chilies rated a 3 on the spice scale. This spice level has sometimes been labelled as “hot” by beginners. After this come the pickled jalapeños, serrano chilies and cayenne peppers, all with a spice level of 5. Do not be deceived by the apparently low numbers. Just to be on the safe side, always make sure you have some fatty food and drink at hand. This is the quickest and most lasting way to reduce the burning sensation in your mouth. Salami or cheese sandwiches as well as milk with at least 1.5% fat can all be helpful. Just try a very small amount to start with. Only when you are completely sure that the peppers are not too hot for you, should you try to eat a larger piece of chili.

They really pack a punch – the hotter varieties

The hotter varieties of Pfalz chilies include the pickled bishop’s crown chilies, which are a 6 in terms of spiciness – hereby already exceeding the midfield. The golden cayenne chili is one of the really hot Pfalz chilies, with level 8 spicy heat this would certainly cause problems for beginners. Although it is true that very small amounts accompanied by high-fat side dishes can also be eaten by beginners, we don’t want to send you off on this journey to hell without any warning.

Pfalz chilies from the devil’s kitchen

Rated a 10 on the spice scale, the bhut jolokia chili is clearly the leader of this pack of spicy peppers. Newcomers might also dare to try the Chili Mix, which includes a mixture of milder and extremely hot pickled chilies. This combination is indeed delicious, but inexperienced chili eaters should not forget to follow the safety precautions described above.

Finally, some well-intended advice for all chili lovers

Hot Pfalz chilies don’t only cause a burning sensation in your mouth – if you touch these chilies with your hand, make sure that you don’t touch any other sensitive mucous membrane afterwards.
