Successfully grow your own chillies with the right accessories

Why are heating pads and indoor greenhouses advisable?

Chili seeds need high temperatures of at least 20°C in order to germinate, some varieties like the habanero, bhut jolokia and Trinidad Scorpion chilies even need germinating temperatures of over 25°C. A seed tray on the window sill over the radiator might seem like a good idea, however this method of cultivation in particular goes wrong all too often. During the day the radiator or direct sunlight makes it too hot, whilst it gets too cold at night. The soil often dries out or becomes mouldy if there is not enough warmth. The energy saving heating pad emits heat evenly and the greenhouse prevents the soil from drying out. At the same time, ventilation hatches in the lid prevent mould growth.
