The Scovie Awards are awarded annually, so to say the "Oscar" of the chili world. The Scovie Award is named in honor of Wilbur Scoville, the inventor of the Scoville scale and the heat level measurement for chillies.
The prizes are given in over 100 categories, including sauces, salsa, mustard, snacks, barbecue sauces, rubs, sweets, but also packaging design, logo and website design. The jury consists of 80 to 100 testers, mostly from the food industry and blindly testing the products. They evaluate taste, consistency, appearance and heat level of the products.
The most popular of course are the prices in the categories hot sauces and barbecue sauces. This is the opportunity for even small sauce manufacturers in the chili world to gain publicity.
