Leek Musselburgh Seeds
Info: Leek `Musselburgh` is extremely hardy and can be picked over winter from December to April when there is little else in the vegetable garden. It has large, tender, white stalks with medium-dark green tops and a mild flavour. Musselburgh is named for a Scottish coastal market town on the Firth of Forth, about 6 miles east of Edinburgh.
Sowing & cultivation: Sow January to February under glass or March and April outdoors. Sow the seed thinly, 1.5cm deep in drills 30 cm apart in soil which has been raked to a fine tilth. Water ground regularly, especially during dry periods. Transplant when plants are large enough to handle to 25 - 30 cm apart. During the growth, continue to earth up so that as much of the leek as possible stays white. When the leek has reached a diameter of 3 cm it is ready to harvest.
