Artichoke Bianco Avorio Seeds
Info: The artichoke Bianco Avorio originally comes from the Mediterranean region and is also known as Cardy, Cardone or Spanish artichoke. In contrast to the artichoke, the flower bud is not eaten, but the fleshy, bleached leaf stalks. They have a similar taste to artichokes, but are more intense in flavour. This variety has leaves without spines which need not be bleached before use and develops many decorative flowers. Since the plants can be very large, plan to place at least 1 square meter.
Prepare the leaves in the same way as asparagus: the coarse fibers are removed from the petioles, then cut into bite-size pieces and cooked for half an hour in salt water with a dash of lemon. Then the vegetables can be served with a sauce, baked in the pan or grated in the oven with cheese.
Sowing & Cultivation: Sow under glass from February to March or from May in open air at a distance of 1m. The plants need a sunny, sheltered placewith constant moisture. In order that the strong plants develop well, they need a profound and fertile soil rich in humus. The stalks are then harvested from October.
