Chimayo Chili Seeds
Information: The Chimayo Chili comes from New Mexico and was bred 400 years ago as a mountain variety for cooler altitudes. Therefore, it copes quite well with our Central European climate. The plants grow shrubby, the chillies are up to 12 cm long and resemble a red jalapeno. It is popular because of its excellent flavour compared with a moderate heat. Traditionally, it is dried and ground into a powder that is less bitter than other chilli powders, but has more interesting flavours. Also good for pickling, filling and BBQ.
Care: Germination temperature is between 22°C and 28°C (germination period: 8-21 days); it is therefore recommended to use a greenhouse and a heating mat. The plants need fresh, well-fertilised, permeable soil, and do not tolerate waterlogging. They should be planted in a sunny, protected place with at least 6 hours of sunlight - preferably more. Put the plants outside approx. 2 to 3 weeks after the last frost.
