Alphonso is one of the most expensive varieties of mango and is also called the queen of mangoes. As the fruit matures, the skin of an Alphonso mango turns golden-yellow with a tinge of red across the top of the fruit. It is rarely found in European markets. It has an intense flavour and fragrance and is also prized for its vibrant colour.
The flesh is smooth and sweet and has a creamy, silky texture. It is suitable for making desserts, mango lassis, cocktails, mango sorbet, ice cream and much more.
