Whole Tasmanian Pepperberry
The Tasmanian pepperberry is a very rare Australian speciality, which is also known as Australian mountain pepper. The dried berries are similar in shape and size to black pepper, however they are a completely different berry species. The dried and powdered leaves can also be used. At first bite, the berries taste slightly sweet and then very hot; however this heat does not last for very long.
Uses: Ideally, pieces of meat should be marinated with a little Tasmanian pepperberry and some oil and then pan-fried or grilled. Alternatively, the pepper can be used to season hotpots and stews, adding the freshly ground peppercorns right before serving.
