Berbere is a spicy spice mix which plays an important role in Ethiopian and Eritrean cuisine.
The balanced combination of Cayenne Chili spiciness, pepper and exotic spices such as cardamom, allspice, cloves and cumin is traditionally used for seasoning lamb and poultry.
It is also suitable for refining soups, meat stews, vegetable dishes, sauces and pastes. In Ethiopia Berbere is not only used for cooking. It can also be mixed with water and wine to make a spicy paste called Awaze, which is used as a condiment.
